Low-Voltage Motor Driver for Portable Applications

STMicroelectronics has launched low-voltage motor driver ICs designed for use in portable applications. The STSPIN drivers are housed in 3mm x 3mm QFN packages. They integrate control logic and a high-efficiency power stage. This drives a stepper, single DC, double DC and 3-phase brushless DC motors. The drivers have low input voltage, low noise and minimal power consumption at full load and in standby conditions. They have accurate positioning and smoothness of motion with up to 256 micro steps per full step.
The STSPIN series of drivers have an operating voltage of 1.8V to 10V. Each device has a high output current up to 2.6 ARMS for its full-bridge. They incorporate energy saving and long battery life features and come with a standby consumption of only 80nA.
The devices are targeted at use in toys, portable printers, robotics, point-of-sale (PoS) devices, portable medical devices and healthcare products (like electric shavers and toothbrushes).
