Microchip Technology has introduced a microcontroller unit (MCU) based on the 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 RISC processor. The ATSAM4E8 MCU delivers a maximum speed of 120MHz and features up to 1024kB of flash, 2kB of cache memory and up to 128kB of SRAM. It also offers a set of advanced connectivity peripherals, a single precision floating point unit (FPU), advanced analog features as well as a full set of timing and control functions.
This MCU has three software-selectable low power modes – Sleep, Wait and Backup. In Sleep mode, the processor is stopped while all other functions can be kept running. In Wait mode, all clocks and functions are stopped but some peripherals can be configured to wake up the system based on predefined conditions.
