STMicroelectronics has introduced a compact, low-power micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) audio sensor with a capacitive sensing element and an IC interface. The sensing element in the MP23AB01DM is capable of detecting acoustic waves and is manufactured using a specialized silicon micromachining process to produce audio sensors. The device has an acoustic overload point of 130dBSPL with a typical 64dB signal-to-noise ratio.
The microphone has a fully differential output in order to minimize common-mode noise. It is available in a package compliant with reflow soldering and is guaranteed to operate over an extended temperature range from -40 °C to +85 °C.
