Melexis has launched a monolithic sensor IC incorporating the Triaxis Hall technology. Conventional planar Hall technology is sensitive to flux density applied orthogonally to the IC surface. The MLX91208 current sensor is sensitive to the flux density applied parallel to the IC surface. This is obtained through an integrated magneto concentrator (IMC) which is deposited on the CMOS die (as an additional back-end step). The device provides an output signal proportional to the flux density applied horizontally and is therefore suitable for current measurement. It is suited as an open loop current sensor for PCB or busbar mounting. It features small size application design and a construction for various current ranges up to 1000A. The transfer characteristic of the MLX91208 is programmable in terms of offset, gain or temperature compensation. The linear analog output is designed for applications where a fast response is required, such as inverters.
